Significance of Rameswaram Temple

rameswaram

Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The holy city is known for one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. There are 22 kunds (ponds) and pilgrims take a dip (there are people, who help to get the water out of the pond) in those before offering their prayer. You can go to the main temple after changing your clothes and offer prayers to god.

The current structure of the temple was built in the 12th century by the Pandya Dynasty. The Dravidian style architecture is just mesmerizing and eyes soothing. You need a minimum of two to three hours to complete your prayer. If you want to avoid the rush, please go in the evening. The temple timings are 6:30 am to 10:30 am in the morning and 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the evening.

You cannot take your mobile phone and camera inside the temple premises, so keep them in your hotel room. There are few shops offering locker facilities for mobile phones, so in case you forgot to keep them in your hotel, you can use the facility.
